We headed up on friday evening and stopped off at Bear Lake Pizza to pick up our race packets. We also got some yummy garlic breadsticks smothered in cheese! Yeah! When we first arrived at Bear Lake Pizza (in Garden City, Utah), it was blowing like crazy. By the time we got our packets and came back outside, it was beginning to pour! We stayed at our Aunt's house in Bloomington, Idaho, about 20 miles north of there, and by the time we got to her house, the storm had subsided. Nevertheless, we were worried that the race might be cancelled, due to the weather forecast and the recent downpour we escaped.
We hung out and talked to our Aunt Marcia and Uncle Mark until it was time to go to bed. I had a pretty good feeling that the weather was going to be good in the morning. And we both hoped it would be! I slept the best I ever had the night before a race. When we woke up at 5am, it was pouring rain outside and there was tons of lightening and thunder. Dang. We got dressed and ready to go to the race. As we were loading up our stuff, we got drenched because of the downpour. When we loaded up our bikes, it began hailing. Yes, hailing!
As we drove to Rendezvous Beach (about 45 minutes away), we talked about how we should just go home because it had rained so hard, and even if it wasn't raining, the roads would still be dangerously slippery. Basically, we both had convinced ourselves that we weren't going to do the race. As we got closer and closer, the sky began to clear up. When we reached the race venue, there was a big long line of cars and it looked as though everything was still good to go - in other words, the race was not cancelled. We were going to do the race after all! We got all of our stuff ready to go and prepared ourselves for the race!
It ended up being a very beautiful morning and awesome weather for a race!
Pumped for the race!
Sisters!
Me and mah hunny!
Ready to go!
Heading to the finish line!
Almost done!
We definitely improved our times! Rhonda still beat me by 2 minutes, but I was able to cut 9 minutes off my Echo triathlon time! Woot! Our goal is to keep training throughout the winter so we can stay in shape, improve our times, and kick some bootie next year!
Me and my friend Emily from work!
I also saw my friend Sarah and her husband there, but I couldn't find Cortney to take a picture of us!
The finishers!
